Kilkenny’s High Street getting Major Facelift

Advertorial as Appeared in Local Newspapers 16th November 2013

Kilkenny's main artery, High Street, is undergoing major improvement works which will transform the centre of the city.
The upgrading works have been well received by citizens and visitors alike, making walking through and shopping in the core of the city a much more enjoyable experience.Construction work on High Street started in the spring following an extensive period of public consultation.Phase one delivered much needed improvements over the length of High Street from the Rose Inn Street junction as far as the Tholsel.

The works included the provision of new limestone kerb lines and a medieval styled road channel. The road carriageway width was realigned to incorporate improved drainage characteristics, and to provide for raised pedestrian priority crossing points. Strategically located seating and street furniture, giving the tired shopper or visitor a chance to rest and watch the world go by, was provided.

Phase two of the High Street improvement scheme commenced last month, and will continue until early December. The area to be constructed under this phase extends from the
Tholsel to the High Street Post Office. The design concept is similar to phase one and includes additional public seating, new cycle parking and resurfacing of loading bays and disabled parking bays.
The improvement works will proceed on a phased basis throughout 2014, with the works to be undertaken at nightime in order to avoid traffic delays and disruption to businesses.
